I’m not under pressure to beat Cameroon – Falcons coach

By BEN EFE
Falcons’ coach Eucheria Uche is not impressed with Cameroon’s Under-23 women’s run at the All Africa Games.

The Falcons will play the Cameroonians on October 22 in the second leg of the Olympic qualifiers. But, while the Lionesses have had an excellent build-up for the crucial tie with their participation at the Maputo 2011 All Africa Games, the Falcons are yet to get their acts together and coach Uche said that she is not under any sort of pressure to get result in Yaounde. The Falcons are holding on to a slim 2-1 advantage from the first leg in Abuja.

“I have not been following their games at the All Africa Games. All I know is that we have a match to play and I’m not under any pressure.

“Agreed their participation in Maputo will help them, but we are equal to the task. We have our girls playing in the local league too and once its over we will go into camp for the game,” said Uche who led the Falcons to reasonable outing at the last women world cup.

Cameroon will play in the final of the All Games against Ghana on Saturday. Ghana edged out the Falcons from the All Africa Games after beating the Nigerian girls 2-1 in Accra. They had forced the Falcons to a 1-1 draw during the first leg in Abuja.

The Nigerian Football Federation pained by the All African Games ouster for both men and women made it clear to coach Uche that a ticket to the London 2012 Olympics was a must. African has two slots in the women game.

Last Sunday Banyana Banyana of South Africa booked their passage by playing 1-1 with Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. The secured a 4-1 aggregate victory over the Ethiopians in the two-leg tie.
