How Ifeanyi Uba almost missed own birthday

It was all about Ifeanyi Uba, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Capital Oil and Gas Limited last weekend. On the radio, on television, the internet and even the papers were not spared in the razzmatazz that blitzed through the social firmament of the nation to celebrate the billionaire young man at 40.

Apart from the Super Eagles Mikel Obi who let the cat out of the bag about the birthday during the week before jetting out to Antananarivo to keep a date with the Magadascar national team, there was no inkling whatsoever that Uba would come with chariots and trumpeters to clock 40 with such fanfare.

As SP can boastfully reveal, even Uba himself had no idea such fiesta is to be unleashed to mark his birthday. He was in China all week and made it back Saturday morning only to be railroaded into a surprise party carefully and elegantly orchestrated by his wife. Though barely able to fight off jet-lag, he became all savvy and settled down to kick-start the celebration with family members and a few friends at his palatial Omole Estate residence.

On Sunday, it was a different matter all together as the celebrant was by then thoroughly in the know and his friends made no pretense about breaking the bank to give him a befitting birthday bash. What a befitting bash it was!

The destination this time was the Civic Centre in Victoria Island and his friends celebrated the man they describe as humble, hardworking,, a philanthropist par excellence who has done so much for the nation and his people, a detribalised Nigerian of impeccable repute. 40 loud cheers, respect!
