Elechi sacks media executive, others

ABAKALIKI—EBONYI State Government, Tuesday, sacked the General Manager of the defunct Ebonyi State Broadcasting Service, EBBS, Mr. Nwafor Odom, and a presenter in the establishment, Mrs Regina Obasi, for her alleged involvement in the crisis that rocked the broadcast outfit some years ago.

The government also directed that the General Manager, Ebonyi Cable Television, ECTV, Mr Victor Iduma, proceed on compulsory retirement.

Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Mr. Chike Onwe, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the end of the State Executive Council meeting at Government House, Abakaliki.

Chike further revealed that the council ordered the Director of News in EBBS, Mr. Davidson Nwali, Director of Administration, Mr. David Otu, Deputy-Director, Commercial, Mr. Eze Ibekwe and Controller Commercial, Mr. Emmanuel Ezoke, to proceed on retirement on ground of age and years of service.

He said: “Mr. Davison Nwali, Director News and Current Affairs to proceed on immediate retirement on grounds of age of service, Mr. Stephen Alefia, Assistant Director News is to formerly transfer his

service to the Ministry of Information for appropriate redeployment as information officer on account of his conduct in the old EBBS. Director of Administration, Mr. David Otu is also directed to proceed on retirement on grounds of age”.

“Government directs the immediate termination of the appointment of Mrs. Regina Obasi, a Presenter in EBBS based on her involvement in the crisis that rocked EBBS and other sundry matters. Mr. Anya Okorie is to transfer his service to the Ministry of Information for appropriate deployment as Information Officer.

Deputy Director Commercial, Mr. Eze Ibekwe is to proceed on immediate retirement on the basis of age in service. Controller Commercial, Mr. Emmanuel Ezeoke has also been directed to proceed on immediate retirement on the grounds of doubtful records of age of service and other sundry matters”.

Commissioner for Information in the state used the opportunity to appeal to Organized Labour in the state to call off the ongoing industrial action adding that the state government was ready to negotiate with Labour so that the strike could be called off.
