Ebonyi PDP suspends Agbo, 37 others

PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi State, weekend, suspended Senator Anthony Oduma Agbo and 37 others for their alleged involvement in anti-party activities and other misdeeds contrary to the constitution of the party.

In a Statement signed by Chairman and Secretary of PDP, Ohaukwu Local

government area of the state, Mr. Mike Egwu and Mr. Titus Nwenyim respectively, the party noted that “the suspended will face a disciplinary Com-mittee to be announced and inaugurated within 3 days from the September 14th.

The suspension of the erring members, according to sources, was connected to their “unholy fraternity” with the Governorship candidate of All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Senator Julius Ali Ucha, during

the last general election.

Senator Anthony Agbo who was affected by the suspended saga was in the Senate between 2007 and 2011 but failed to win at PDP’s last primary election in the State.

Chairman of PDP in the State, Mr. Ugorji Ama-Oti stated that the party was well grounded in

the state and was not ready to compromise the constitution of the Party irrespective of those involved.

According to him: “The party at the state level is aware of such suspension. This morning we were notified in writing by the local government executives of Ohaukwu. From there we learnt that they held NEC meeting just like what is similar to SEC.

From the document they made available to us it means that they arrived at far reaching decisions. However, on the issues of some at the ward level of the party, they also attached document showing that they were all suspended from the party from their various wards.

“If they had decamped we would have found that more pleasing because

this is democracy and if you feel that you are no longer comfortable with were you are, you are at liberty to move and to associate with

group you so decide. But for you to be in the party and continue to conduct yourself in such a manner that is embarrassing will not be tolerated.

The Chairman of the party in the state however noted that the

suspension of the members was not the end for those affected as they have the right to clear themselves with the disciplinary committee at both federal and state level respectively.

He pointed out that the suspension of the PDP members would affect the strength of the party in Ohaukwu local government area of the state.

“We have said it over and over again that our party has moved to a different level. We don’t tolerate indiscipline. We are very solid on ground and our members constitute 98% of the total population of the state. I want to assure you that the action of the party will not affect the party negatively in Ohaukwu LGA. Suspension is not expulsion. They have the opportunity to make their case at the appropriate disciplinary committee.

You don’t rule out the fact that

the disciplinary committee may not find all of them culpable.

“So what SEC did was to rectify what the Wards did because everybody

is a member of a ward at the party level and that’s where your name is. A further action is for us to look at it. They informed us that in three days time, those of them at that ward executives will facing disciplinary committee at the local government level.

So when we look at the ones that affect us, like the Senator, we review it and the disciplinary committee at the state level will look at it”
