Dangote’s total donation to social crisis hits N524.7m

President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has donateda total cash and relief materials worth N524.7 million to the victims of social crisis in Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna and flood victims in Oyo and Lagos States.

Specifically, Dangote Foundation donated the sum of N50 million and relief materials worth N10million to victims of the recent flood disaster in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The business mogul, who made the donation when he visited the state governor, Senator Isiska Abiola Ajimobi in his office, said the Foundation would do more in resettling the victims as it had done in other affected parts of the country.

In a related development the Foundation last week donated N100m to the Lagos State government to assist in the rehabilitation of the victims of the recent flood disaster in the state. Alhaji Dangote made the donation when he led a team of the management of the group to the Government House, Marina Lagos.

He said the contribution was a response to the clarion call by the state government in the wake of the last July 10, flooding in the state that public spirited individuals and organizations should come to the aid of the government to compliment developmental efforts, especially in tackling the issue of recent flooding and rehabilitation of the victims.

Dangote Foundation also provided succor for victims of the social crisis in Bauchi, Gombe and Kaduna through the donation of goods and cash worth N364 million. Victims in Bauchi State received cash and relief materials worth N38.22 million, those in Gombe State received N9.38 million in cash and goods while Kaduna victims got N317.10 million.

Executive Director, Dangote Foundation, Ahmed Iya, speaking at the presentation of the relief materials in Bauchi noted that the humanitarian gesture by the foundation is to provide succor for those affected by the social crisis in the state following the 2011 general elections especially those who are still staying in temporary camps.

He stated that the gesture is meant to help the affected people reintegrate themselves into the society.

He explained that the gift items and money are meant to provide food, shelter and clothing. The gift items include a full range of Dangote Group consumer products-danvita, pasta, noodles, sugar and salt. The items also include support kits like mosquito nets, tarpaulins, wrappers, cooking pots, plastic buckets, blankets and others.

Iya added that Dangote Foundation has identified with all kinds of humanitarian gestures in Nigeria and beyond including human capital development, education, nutrition and public health. He also thanked the Bauchi State government and community for welcoming the Dangote Foundation team.
