LAGOS – A Lagos High Court, Igbosere, yesterday, sentenced a 35-year-old man, Dike Ernest, to three years imprisonment, for stealing sacks, worth N925,000, belonging to Zedkem Technologies Limited, an agro company.
The court handed down the sentence against the accused person, after his counsel begged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying “the essence of conviction is to act as deterrence. It is believed that the defendant is remorseful. He has never been charged for stealing, so we plead that the court temper justice with mercy.”
The convict was accused of stealing N560,000 by overloading sacks, property of Zedkem Technologies Limited, to customers, who came to purchase sacks.
It was gathered that the accused was employed in 2006 as the General Manager of the said company.
He was in charge of operations and marketing before trouble started.
