MG (Morris Garages) one time renowned British automobile brand is now in Nigeria – courtesy, Coscharis Motors. The MG as you may recall, was ones a household name in the automobile world in those days, just like the Toyotas, Hondas and Mercedes Benz of today. It was hardly missing in most garages and owners pride the models as jewels. But today, MG is a citizen of China with the latest technological advancements like any other world-class auto brand.
You may be wondering why the MG is now a Chinese brand. Don’t forget that China has become one of the world’s automobile manufacturing super powers. Presently, there is no notable automobile manufacturer that does not have a plant in China. It might interest you too to know that China is now Rolls Royce’s biggest market. This is apart from the fact that Volvo and a notable transmission manufacturer are now owned by Chinese businessmen. So the MG change of citizenship is in order given the Chinese exploits in the automobile world lately.
But that is not the story of today. The good news is that the MG is now in Nigeria courtesy of Coscharis Motors which controls almost ten thriving auto brands, such as BMW, Ford, Land Rover, Rolls Royce, etc.
In a chat with the executive director of Coscharis Motors, Mr. Raju Sawlani in his Victoria Island, Lagos office recently, he revealed that the company is introducing the full range of MG pleasure cars with engine capacity ranging from 1.3 to 2.5 litre.
The models include the MG3 Supermini; MG 350, MG 550 and MG 750 Sedans.
The MG 3 Supermini is a British style supermini with over 80 years of innovation and reformation. The supermini is like an icon in the mini car segment with two engine options, a1.3 and 1.5 litre engines. It is available in manual and automatic transmissions with array of features only seen in luxury sedans.
The MG 350 is available in only 1.5 litre engine with either manual or automatic transmission. It comes in three variants including standard, comfort and delux. Its competitors in the Nigeria market will be the Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent.
The MG 550 is also available with 1.8 litre engine and both manual and automatic transmissions. It boasts of array of safety and luxury features.
The MG 750 however is the top of the range, available in 1.8 and 2.5 litre powerplants. As a typical flagship of the MG family, the MG 750 parades array of luxury comparable to premium cars as well as top class safety features.
According to Mr. Sawlani, the MG brand will be targeted at the Korean car buyers. Other MG models include MG 6, MG TF Sport, etc.
With its European design, the MG models are extraordinary classics with outstanding values, says Mr. Raju whose experience in the automobile industry spans close to three decades.
