The 9th Pepsi U- 17 inter national tournament holding at the MKO Abiola Stadium Abeokuta enters the semi-final today Thursday August 25 with Nigeria’s national U-15 team taking on Sia One Academy, Abuja in the first semi- final while BRF Football Academy, Lagos tackles Liberty Professionals Academy of Ghana in the other semi-final.
Pepsi Football Academy played a good host by upholding the spirit of fair play as the two teams it entered for in the competition could not make it to the semi-final. In the last matches of the group stages, Pepsi Football Academy Team 1 playing in Group A lost 0-1 to Sia One Academy while the Pepsi Academy Team 2 in Group B were beaten 3-1 by Liberty Professionals of Ghana.
Overall, the standard of play at this tournament has been very high. Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Gbenga Otenuga who formally declared the competition open on Tuesday August 23 canvassed for continuous engagement of the youth in sporting activities as a way of channeling their energy to good causes.
and minimize some social vices associated with the youth. Otenuga lauded Pepsi for remaining faithful to youth development in the past 19 years through the Pepsi Football Academy.
