Former Lobi Stars chief coach, Peter Ogaba has said that players in the Nigerian Premier League are only interested in the financial rewards they can get and not the professionalism of the game.
He spoke to Inside Out Premier League from his base in Abuja stating that they (Players) are not improving themselves any more.
He also said that the none improvement of players personally has led to coaches selection in games to be without merit.
“Players in the league in those days were very professional compared to now as they were more interested in the game and not the show off as it is now. Their aim was just to succeed which was to get to the very height of the game and not money. This they do by working very hard personally without the assistance of the coach’s techniques.
“Today, the reverse is the case as players wait for coaches training plans to be fit, making the issue of merit in selection a thing of the past. They do not train personally any more. Those days, everything was based strictly on merit, raw talents were picked from nowhere without knowing anybody,” Ogaba said.
