Yola – President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the renaming of the Federal University of Technology, Yola.
The university is now Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, MAUTECH.
The renaming of the institution takes effect from October 1, 2011.
Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Bashir Haruna Usman, at a briefing, yesterday, in Yola, said this was in line with the tradition of immortalizing important personalities.
Bashir said the change of name to MAUTECH was in fulfillment of President Jonathan’s promise to immotalise the late Adama following a request by Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa.
Modibbo Adama Ibn Hassan, Vanguard learnt, was a great Islamic scholar, educationist, outstanding leader and founder of Fombina Kingdom, now Adamawa Emirate Council.
