Dolphins players adamant on strike action

By KATE OBODO
The strike action taken by Dolphin FC players to protest the unpaid sign-on fees and match bonuses owed them by their management is reported to persist as the players have vowed not to call it off unless they are paid .

A source close to the club told Inside Out Premier League that the players are still on strike and are very serious about it, adding that unless the management of the team meets their demand, they will not call off the strike.

“The club’s management and the Rivers State government are aware of the situation and are doing everything to ensure the players get paid and continue in their bid to win the title this season. There is hope that the players will be paid before the league resumes.

Though they have been training and preparing for the league, that is not to say that they have called the strike off. The most important thing is that their demand still stands and if the management doesn’t do something about it quickly, I’m afraid the strike might drag on,” the source said.

Sunshine in hot pursuit of Dolphins

The match which was played in Ijebu-Ode saw Ajani Ibrahim scoring both goals to give the Akure-based side 63 points, one less than the leaders, but with a game in hand.

The Nigerian league will concluded in a few weeks with only four round of matches to go as Dolphins and Sunshine lead the pack with Warri Wolves and Kano Pillars close on their heels with 59 points each.

It is a club that wants the best and always goes for the trophy that is why I chose to play for them. Though my stay in Enyimba is not going to be forever, I just want to set a goal for myself. I want to say that playing in Enyimba is a stepping stone to my greatness. My target is to ply my football career abroad,” he said.

When asked about his view on the run of the NPL he said, “Nigerian League is okay but then the organizers of the league have to give their best to ensure that it is like the European leagues. They should endeavour to learn from the Europeans and see how they can organize theirs. The league ought to be better than what it is now,” he said
