CONFED CUP: Asec beat Kaduna Utd

Asec Mimosas of Ivory Coast beat Nigeria’s Kaduna United on Sunday in Group A of the Confederation Cup.

The result means Asec are back in contention in the pool, just one point behind leaders Club Africain.
On Saturday, Nigeria’s Sunshine Stars went down to their first defeat of the group phase of the tournament when they were beaten 1-0 by MAS of Morocco.

That result means MAS are top of Group B, while Club Africain lead Group A after their win over Interclube.
Asec went into their game with just one point to their credit and were hoping to make home advantage count.

But the fans endured a fruitless first half, despite a number of excellent chances which were blocked by the Nigerians’ keeper.
The deadlock was broken in Abidjan in the opening minute of the second period, when Kouakou Irenee fired home from Mangou Kessi’s header.

Kaduna United drew level on 66 minutes when substitute Mohamed Abdul scored but the home team were back in front moments later through Brefo Mensah and they held on for the win.

Club Africain of Tunisia lead the way in Group A after their 2-0 victory over InterClube of Angola on Saturday.
Algeria’s JS Kabylie are bottom of Group B without a single point after their 2-0 loss to DC Motema Pembe on Friday.
