Chevrolet Cruze is no doubt one of the best designs to have come out of the assembly line of General Motors (GM) and the result is beginning to manifest across the world. The Cruze is giving the Japanese car makers every reason to worry especially in America where the cruze has powered to top of the passenger car sales charts in June.
The cruze, cruised pass perennial chart-toppers like the Toyota Camry and Honda Civic and may likely remain there for a long time. This is what the American models have not been able to do for many years and the cruze seems to have started a revolution in the passenger car segment. The cruze has a captivating design that stands it out anywhere.
But in Nigeria, the Chevrolet cruze is yet to receive the kind of attention that has followed it across the globe. The reason, perhaps, could be of lack of proper publicity for the Compact Sedan that has a dynamic exterior and interior styling with incredible features.
My last visit to Chevrolet South Africa kept me wondering why the cruze was not dominating its segment because it has all the right attributes to do so. Power, styling, comfort, safety are things you can feel on your first contact with the cruze.
The ride in cruze during my South African trip revealed so much about the car and the performance was unlike any other Sedan in its class. It is simply ahead of its class. The fuel guage hardly move after covering several kilometres making you to wonder if the cruze was even running on fuel at all.
Powered by a 1.8 litre engine, the Cruze sedan delivers first-class performance with fuel efficiency and quietness. Its six-speed automatic transmission complements the engine quietness, giving you the feeling of a ride in the premium car class.
With McPherson strut in front and compound crank axle rear suspension, the cruze delivers well on-road. You could hardly feel the bumps. The Chevy Cruze is not all about exterior good looks and performance, it has an interior you can not fault. Everything is in place, kudos to GM designers and engineers. Starting from the dashboard, you will see Chevrolet’s signature dual cockpit design of luxurious interior, a look that is usually found in premium vehicles-grained surfaces, soft touch materials and low-gloss trim panels offering a quality feel.
The Cruze interior standard features are countless. Automatic air-conditioning system, leather trim, power steering, folding rear seats, power windows, tiltable steering column, central door lock, remote keyless entry system are some of the interior features of the cruze. Others are air-bags, automatic cruise control, multi-function steering wheel, alarm vehicle speed, etc.
Built with the highest safety expectation, the cruze protects its occupants with its array of safety features. It provides a solid foundation for all-round protection from collision. Air-bags, anti-lock braking system, solid body with re-enforced doors, are some of the safety features of the cruze.
Marketed in Nigeria by NMI Ltd, with showrooms across the country, the cruze competitors include Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra and Kia Cerato.
