Bad roads: Lagos warns car wash operators

By Monsur    Olowoopejo
LAGOS — THE Lagos State Government, weekend, said a study on road failures in the state revealed that activities of car wash operators were major causes of failed roads and warned members of Car Wash Association of Nigeria, CAWAN, to avoid damaging the state roads or face sanction.

Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Mr. Wasiu Olokunola, who gave the warning at a meeting with the executive of the association, lamented that despite appeals, most of the operators had refused to change.

Represented by Adeniyi Abdul, Director, Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Department, Mr. Olokunola, said a study on road failures by the Ministry revealed that car wash operators were major causes.

He said government’s investment on roads was too huge to be left to any individual or institution to damage at will.

The Permanent Secretary noted that “dirt flush from vehicles are washed into the drains, creating heavy silts just as water indiscriminately flows to the roads there from.”

While advising the association to quickly embark on an enlightenment of their members, the Chairman said that government would not tolerate any abuse on the roads.
