Airtel Africa has recently launched a Pan-African television ad that aims to inspire youths to pursue their passion for soccer by participating in the Airtel Rising Stars tournament.
The tournament – which is currently underway across 15 Airtel markets in Africa – supports talent at the grassroots level and at the same time provides youths with a platform to upgrade their football skills.
Chief Marketing Officer, Airtel Africa, Andre Beyers, said Airtel is passionate about Africa, and Africa is passionate about football, saying initiatives such as this will create a positive impact in the communities where we operate and empower the youths – an extremely important part of our society.”
He said, what makes Airtel Rising Stars different from any other football tournament is the sheer scale and grandeur of this initiative. The tournament will be played by thousands of youths across the continent and it is really quite spectacular. This is what we are aiming to communicate through the television ad.”
“The commercial starts off with individuals across multiple landscapes on the continent staring at an aircraft flying above them and be dropping thousands of footballs down to a number of locations in both cities and villages spanning from a desert to a jungle, a savannah to an open plantation. In the process, one ball separates from the rest and begins moving through streets and alleys, and down multiple staircases. It will finally stops rolling at the feet of a young student at his desk.
“The commercial culminates with a central message that summarizes the objective of the Airtel Rising Stars tournament: “If you’re the next African superstar, we’ll find you”.
The tournament is currently underway in 15 countries across the continent with up to 3,000 participating teams.
