PORT HARCOURT- EIGHT commissioner nominees sent to the Rivers State House of  Assembly by the state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, were screened and confirmed, Tuesday.

They are Messrs Ezemonye Amadi, Tammy Danagogo, George Tolofari and Fred Igwe. Others are Dr. Nathaniel Imegwu, Mr. Emmanuel Chinda, Mr. Okey Amadi and Mr. Charles Okaye.

Three were former lawmakers, while two were former Commissioners. Mr. Chinda, a former Commissioner for Agriculture, spoke on why the state government, during his tenure,  acquired a portion of  land in  Ogoni area.

According to him, it was for a Banana plantation project and not for a military barracks as was alleged in some quarters. He said the project was part of effort to generate employment for people of the state.
