The chairman, Agege Local Government Area, Hon. Jubreel Abdulkareem has called on the federal government to consider the call by some well meaning Nigerians for increased allocations to the local government area in the country.
Hon. Abdulkareem made the call yesterday at the council secretariat, during a press conference to mark his 1000 days in office.
He said that the call had become necessary in view of the enormous role the LGAs are expected to do in their various localities.
The Chairman who used the occasion to showcase his achievements since assumption of office three years ago, said that there was nothing wrong in the joint allocation for states and their local governments currently in practice but admitted that funds currently being distributed to them by the federal government were not sufficient for them to prosecute projects that would make meaningful impact in the lives of the people.
While stressing the need for increased allocation to the LGAs, he charged local government Chairmen to devise means of generating more revenue that would complement their monthly federation allocations.
‘’We are all conscious of the fact that human wants are insatiable and no government in the world over can satisfy the needs and yearnings of its citizens all, at the same time, but as the closest tier of government to the people, we had carefully prioritized the needs of our people with a design of plans and programmes that touches every sphere of livelihoods and the greatest number of our citizens, directly and indirectly, within the limit of the resources accrued to the local government.
