LAGOS— Vanguard Newspapers and Channels Television have been given awards for their contribution to the growth and development of the media industry.
Rotary Club of Ikoyi, organised the award for deserving individuals and corporate organisations at its 27th investiture and installation of the President of Rotary Club of Ikoyi, weekend.
According to the in-coming president of the club, Mr John Sanaya, “Vanguard Newspapers was recognised for its simplicity, boldness and truthfulness in reporting.” The guest speaker, Mr. John Momoh, chairman/chief executive officer of Channels Television equally bagged individual award for his contribution to broadcast journalism.
Meanwhile, Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has called on the Federal and Lagos State governments to take urgent steps to address the flooding problems in parts of Lagos State.
Obanikoro, who was chairman of the event, said: “It is in our best interest to support Lagos State on efforts to solve the flood problem, which has rendered many homeless and property worth millions of naira destroyed. The Federal and Lagos Governments should work together to tackle this menace.”
In 2004, while I was a Senator, I moved a motion on the floor of the National Assembly for the Federal Government to assist the Lagos State Government on the perennial flooding ravaging the state. Up till now, this problem still persists.”
