Tsav flays purported investigation of Waziri

MAKURDI—Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav has described the purported investigation of Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, on the allegations by Centre for Rule of Law as a ploy by corrupt politicians to intimidate the EFCC.

Tsav also told Vanguard in an interview that the move was a conspiracy to shield corrupt politicians from prosecution and urged President Goodluck Jonathan to discountenance the conspiracy and all other attempts to frustrate the on-going war against corruption in the country.

The former Commissioner of Police maintained that the gang up against the EFCC  could be attributed to high profile arrest and prosecution of some Nigerians, including the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, warning that the ploy was not good for the renewed onslaught against graft.

He said: “The allegation by the Centre for the Rule of Law, against Mrs. Farida Waziri was a conspiracy to shield corrupt politicians from prosecution.

“All along no one complained about Mrs. Waziri’s rank, no one complained that she was very powerful and no one thought of merging the EFCC with the ICPC until  former Speaker Dimeji Bankole was arraigned for alleged corruption, he added”.

“Many more politicians may be waiting for their turn of drilling by the EFCC.

“The President has assured Nigerians that his government would have zero tolerance for corruption; if this is true, then the President must discountenance this conspiracy and attempts to frustrate the war against corruption in the country,” he said.

Tsav insisted that Mrs. Waziri has proved her worth with the number of arrests, convictions and recovered fund from corrupt government officials advising that Nigerians should encourage her to do more instead of distracting her from her responsibilities to the nation.
