Port Harcourt – Femi Babafemi, the Head Coach of the Lagos Boxing team to the 17th National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt, has expressed fulfillment over the performance of his boxers.
Babafemi on Saturday in Port Harcourt said that the medals haul by the boxers was an unprecedented feat.
He said that the medals haul in the event was as a result of the state’s sports developmental programme in boxing, which many had ignored.
The coach said that the state would ensure that the momentum of its achievements in sports development did not diminish.
“After this remarkable outing, we will make sure that these boxers are kept together for future engagements while more would be nurtured to join their ranks.
“We intend to sustain this feat in the 18th edition of the National Sports Festival which Lagos would be hosting next April.
“I feel so great and very happy that this remarkable feat happened during my watch as the head coach, ‘’Babafemi said.
Team Lagos’ Agbaje Taiwo won a gold medal in the 52kg category, likewise Fatai Sikiru in the 56kg category.
Others who also won gold medals were Rilwan Oladosu in the 60kg, Fijabi Olaide in the 64kg, Murisango Silva in the 81kg Murisango Silva and Sunday Okaro in the 91kg category.
In the female 51kg category, Mutiat Adebayo won a bronze while Kate Peter and Teni Are won gold medals in the 54kg and 81kg categories respectively. (NAN)
