Strike: Ebonyi Speaker calls for dialogue

ABAKALIKI – Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwankwo, has called on organized labour in the country to exhaust every available medium of negotiation with the Federal Government over the non-implementation of the N18, 000 minimum wage before embarking on industrial action.

He stressed the need for the labour union to exercise caution and patience in its proposed three-day warning strike, adding that the purported strike would have a devastating impact on the economy of the country if carried out.

The speaker ,who made the appeal during the sitting of the House at the Legislative Chambers in Abakaliki, urged all the parties involved not to throw caution to the wind.

He said:   “There has been a plan by the Nigeria Labour Congress and organised labour to declare a nationwide strike in some part of the country, there has been a recurrent uprising which has resulted in deaths and wanton destruction of lives and property.

“Considering all these, it is my solemn appeal to Nigeria Labour Congress to exercise patience and  dialogue to resolve the disaagreement.
