Rivers TUC mobilises workers for strike on N18,000 minimum wage

PORT HARCOURT: Rivers State chapter of the Trade Union Congress, TUC has said its members would be part of the planned strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC

The state Chairman of the TUC, Comrade Chika Unuegbu who made this known in a message to  Vanguard  at the end of an emergency meeting  of the body said all its affiliate bodies had been thoroughly sensitised ahead of the planned strike.

His words,  “the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, Rivers State council held an emergency state council meeting today to deliberate on N18,000 National minimum wage and other matters. The council resolved that it is in total support of the position of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC in respect of the N18, 000 National minimum wage and therefore set up TUC Rivers state strike monitoring committee led by the TUC state Vice Chairman, Comrade Godspower Imoni.“

“The Committee is to ensure that all TUC affiliates observe the strike. The meeting further directed all affiliates of TUC in Rivers state to ensure 100 percent compliance with the directives of the TUC national secretariat on the N18, 000 national minimum wage strike.

The meeting however took due notice that the TUC national executive council meeting on the minimum wage strike will take place tomorrow Friday July 15 but is fully convinced it should commence early preparations for the strike to be effective.“
