Parents have been urged to help protect our culture by discouraging their children from imbibing foreign cultures. The director general, Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, Otunba Segun Runsewe, made this call yesterday in Lagos.
Speaking at the installations of Kennedy Ejakpomewhe as the District Governor 2011- 2012 of Rotary International District 9110. He said it is disheartening to see young boys plaiting their hairs as well as having ear rings on.
He noted that this is not our culture and that mothers should take special interest in inculcating the right attitudes in their children.
Runsewe, while congratulating the new district governor, said Rotary has contributed to the development of mankind as well the promotion of social harmony.
In his paper, entitled, “Harnessing Nigerian tourism for economic transformation”, Runsewe said that the tourism industry holds enormous potentials for fast tracking the economy.
“This is in view of its capacity to generate income and employment opportunities, protect the environment and heritage assets as well as promote national unity.”
He charged the Rotary members to join hands together with stakeholders to harness Nigeria’s rich tourism potentials for accelerated development.
”In most parts of the world where tourism is a serious economic activity, the industry is driven by the private sector. “
