Port – Harcourt—THERE was pandemonium in parts of Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, yesterday, as policemen engaged a gang of armed robbers in a shoot-out.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ben Uguegbwulam, said the robbers took over some streets in the area, shooting sporadically, a situation that attracted the attention of policemen.
He said two of the robbers sustained gun shot injuries, adding that none of them was arrested
He said, “today (yesterday), at about 0132 hours, information was received from a street in Oyigbo by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, that armed robbers invaded the street shooting, robbing and inflicting wounds on some victims.
Oyigbo Division and SARS Police teams were led by the DPO, whose swift action saved the situation. Two of the robbers sustained bullet injuries.”
He added: “The police team also pursued the hoodlums, resulting in an exchange of fire and fatal injury sustained by two of the culprits. A bag containing various types of handsets was recovered from them while other robbers escaped. Other items recovered include, a big cutter, cutlass and wrist watches.”
