The National Sports Commission (NSC) has secured the services of three Cuban coaches for the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) ahead of the All Africa Games scheduled to hold in September in Mozambique.
Confirming the good news yesterday, AFN President Chief Solomon Ogba said that the three coaches were mainly for the jumps (long jump, high jump and triple jump ), throws (shot put and discuss) and stick sprints, (100m and 110m).
Although details of the coming of the Cuban coaches to Nigeria to help the country’s elite athletes on their programmes for both the AAG and the 2012 Olympics remain hazy, it was understood that they are to assume duties early next week.
“We are really excited with the coming of the Cubans because they are going to help us consolidate in the area where we have serious comparative advantage,” Chief Ogba said.
