Managing Director of NigComSat, Engr. Ahmed Rufai, at the weekend, assured the science and Tech ministry that the NigComSat1R pre launch conference holding tomorrow in Abuja, would live up to its billing of stimulating satellite business interests for the country.
Rufai last week revealed that the Ministry of Science and Tech expressed much delight at the array of quality industry stakeholders that have accepted to speak and participate at the Pre-NigComSat1R Satellite launch conference .
According to Rufai, the Ministry expects that the conference would serve as a two-way traffic for officials of NIGCOMSAT and Stakeholders in the industry who would speak and hear from each other on how to move the satellite business to the next level in Nigeria.
He said that the conference will provide an update on the replacement satellite, NigComSat-1R which has neared its completion, and elucidate on the global acceptance and standard best industry practices on communications satellite operations and management and the transformative effect of communications satellite for wealth and job creation in a knowledge economy.
He said that this conference could not have come at a better time than now that the Federal government transformation agenda has just begun adding that NigComSat-1R will certainly provide the technological platform that will take the country to the next level.
According to him, those who are coming to speak at the conference were carefully selected based on their track records in communications technology issues.
They include Dr. Eugene Juwah, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Engr. Ernest Ndukwe, immediate past Executive Vice Chairman NCC, Prof. Tak Utsumi, Chairman Global System Analysis Simulation Association of USA, Dr. Chris Uwaje, President ISPON, Prof. Charles Uwadia, President Nigerian Computer Society of Nigeria, Dr. Sola Afolabi of USAID/ West African Hub, Accra- Ghana, Dr. Jimson Olufuye, President Information Technology Association of Nigeria(ITAN) Dr. Tomi Davies of Mobitel, Mr. Lanre Ajayi of Informatics, Ms Funke Opeke of Main One Cable Company and a lecturer at the University of Jos, Mr. Joe Anugu among tothers.
Besides these people, NigComSat spokesperson, Mr Sonny Aragba-Akpore hinted that CEOs and Chieftains of the Information and Communications sector, Lawmakers, Regulatory Agencies and Multi-nationals among others are expected at the conference scheduled for Abuja International Conference Centre.
Aragba Akpore said the conference will address the vital position of Satellite as a national broadband backbone infrastructure for communications and the important role it will play in the drive for broadband penetration nationwide.
He said this was in addition to also serving as a marketing window and update on NigComSat-1R amongst others.
The Ministry expects that the conference will set the stage for Pre-Launch Marketing of the Satellite Capacity aside bringing critical stake holders on board to support the vintage position Nigeria holds in the Satellite industry.
