New wage: Police wade into NLC factions face-off

IBADAN — OYO State Police Command has invited feuding leaders of the State council of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, following disagreement with workers over the N18.000 minimum wage which led to the suspension of the union leaders by aggrieved workers.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Baba Adisa Bolanta, the move was aimed at ensuring that the disagreement did not lead to breakdown of law and order.

It will be recalled that last week, some workers who felt disappointed that their leaders did not represent them accordingly hurled stones at their leaders, while the leaders were addressing the workers.

Since the suspension of their leaders, the workers had shunned their duty posts and gathered at the office of the NLC on daily basis.
Both parties have agreed to meet with the police at the State Command, Eleyele.

He noted that the police had been able “to broker peace between the two parties as they have reportedly promised to come together again.”
