Minimum Wage: FG should honour agreement – CIPM

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) through its president, Mr. Abiola Popoola has called on the Federal Government to honour the agreement reached between it and workers over the national minimum wage, as the institute expressed its dismay over what it described as a contract that must be honoured.

The Institute’s president made this comment during the Human Resource Leaders Roundtable dinner where he said the minimum wage has been signed into law and there should not be other negotiations other than to fulfill the agreement signed by the federal and state governments and the private sector.

Popoola who also described President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet as not impressive, said the Federal Government must make workers’ welfare a top priority in the execution of its policies. The CIMP president said the Institute is making steady and focused effort to raise the game of human resource practice in Nigeria.

According to him, members of the Chattered Institute of Personnel Management must demonstrate leadership in the quality of service delivery as regards the management of people in their various organisations.

To achieve this, the President assured that the institute will not relent in its efforts to ensure that members acquire required skills and adhere to the institute’s Code of Ethics.
