Katsina-Alu, Salami probe: Anxiety as panel submit report

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri

ABUJA-There is palpable tension at the top echelon of the Nigerian judiciary as the investigative panel that was constituted by the National Judicial Council, NJC, with a view to ascertaining the veracity of allegations of corruption levelled against Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, and the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Isa Salami, gets set to submit its final report.

The NJC had, in its bid to get to the root of the feud  between the CJN and the PCA, especially with reference to allegations of judicial malpractice levelled against them from different quarters, mandated the panel to gather, investigate and forward a conclusive report of its findings on the issue.

After several months of intrigues at hearing sessions that were held in camera by the panel, Vanguard reliably gathered that the final report is ready for submission.

Though the panel, headed by the immediate past President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Umaru Abdullahi, was specifically mandated to submit its report before May 9, it, however, failed to meet the deadline owing to the number of petitions it received.

Notable among the petitioners were former Governors Olagunsoya Onyinola and Chief Segun Oni of Ogun and Ekiti states, respectively.

They insisted that they want redress over alleged miscarriage of justice against them.
