GOC tasks soldiers on professionalism

Calabar—The General Officer Commanding, GOC, 82 Division Nigerian Army, Major-General Sarki Bello, has advised soldiers to exhibit exemplary conduct during internal operations, warning that their attitude, conduct and behaviour during operations may become subjects of enquiry later.

The GOC, who was represented by the Commander, 14 Brigade, Brig Gen Sylvester Audu, gave the warning at the closing ceremony of the 82 Division Warrant Officers, WOs, and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers competition held at headquarters, 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army Calabar, Cross River State.

He said: “Some of our attitude, conduct and behaviours, during internal security operations, may later be subjected to enquiry.”

It is, therefore, vital that we exhibit high standard of professionalism always.”

According to him, the current threat posed by Boko Haram sect in the North was capable of robbing the Army of all the good works it had done to assist civil authorities in maintenance of law and order. He called on the Army to be extra-vigilant and alert in order to counter any threat in their areas of responsibility.
On the competition, he said that it was meant to promote comradeship and espirit de corps among troops in the Division and to prepare them for other activities that may be assigned to them in the future.
