IN an effort to increase productivity amongst its workforce Global Oceon Engineers Limited has organised a ‘walk for wellness’ physical exercise for its employees and other stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to promote the health of its workforce.
Managing Director of the Company, Mr. Seun Faluyi, who spoke with newsmen at the end of the exercise, which took place in Lagos, disclosed that the theme of the company’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) week for this year is “maintaining a healthy workforce for maximum productivity.”
He said the productivity of any organisation depends on the health of its employees, adding that the most important asset of his company is the workforce.
According to him, Global Oceon Engineers Limited focuses on maintaining a healthy workforce, rather than taking care of sick employees.
“In our HSE, we focus on maintaining a healthy workforce, rather than providing medical care for sick workforce. We focus on the wellness of our employees and focusing on wellness means that we ensure that our employees are healthy at all times, rather than focusing on how to take care of them when they are sick. We recognise that being well is cheaper than getting well.
For us, HSE is not just a slogan, it is a way of life and embedded in our culture, and because we care for the environment, Oceon’s operations are done in line with the provisions of ISO 14001,” he said.
He noted that it makes more business sense for employees to stay well, rather than for an organisation to invest resources to make sick workforce to get well, adding that a healthy workforce also has personal benefits.
“Individuals in our company are driven to succeed and if the individuals in any organisation are driven to succeed, it is because they are fit and sound. That is why they are driven to succeed.
People, who are not healthy, can never be productive. So, it is for personal good as well because they will be able to work longer; harder and also do a lot of other things for their personal gains,” he added.
