Family of slain policeman demands N550m payout

Umuahia – Family of police corporal Clement Amachi, allegedly killed last week by his colleague in Umuahia is demanding N550 million from the federal and Abia State governments.

Amachi, a member of Governor Theodore Orji’s security network, was allegedly shot and killed by his colleague near the governor’s official residence in Umuahia.

The money, according to the family spokesman, Mr. Francis Ubani, will be for the upkeep  of the deceased’s widow, four-year-old son, aged mother and other relations who were dependent on him.

In a reaction, Abia State government cautioned the Amachi family not to hold it to ransom over the death of their son.

The family’s demand was contained in a letter to the governor, wherein it also  demanded full investigation into the death of  its son.

The family said since the death of the police corporal, it had not been allowed to see the corpse, insisting that it should be allowed to confirm that their son had actually been killed as claimed.
