Nigerian boxers, particularly those in the paid ranks have been advised to train constantly so as to remain fit for future challenges.
According to the assistant secretary general of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, Oladipo Abayomi, more fights have been planned in the coming months and it was only wise for the boxers to always be fit as any of them could be called upon at any point.
“A busy time awaits Nigerian boxers,” Abayomi, a.k.a. Mr Boxing, began in a chat with Sports Vanguard. “My advice to them is that the sky will be the limit for whoever wants to progress. We have arranged a number of fights for them and only the fittest will be called upon to fight.”
Specifically, Abayomi said that there will be bouts on July 24 and 31 being put together by popular boxing promoter, Ola Raji.
He said contrary to the perception that the sport in Nigeria was on the decline, boxing in the country was indeed on the rise.
“From what I saw this night, I believe there has been progress in the sport. All we need is sustenance and that is what we(the new board) are out to do. We intend to keep the momentum and in no time, Nigerian boxers will become hot again,”he said
