All roads lead to Asaba, Oghara, Ughelli and Ogwashi Uku in Delta State, as preparations for the 2nd edition of the
annual ASCON Oil football championship, gather momentum.
The event which is being packaged by Dream Team Football. Academy, Asaba, in honour of late Engr. George Enenmoh, Founder/CEO of ASCON Oil Ltd., was instituted in 2010 as part of activities to keep alive the dreams of the late industrial mogul, whose life was tragically cut short in the fatal Bellview Airline crash of October 22nd, 2005, at Lisa village, Ifo local government area of Ogun State.
According to the head organizing committee and CEO Dream Team Academy, Matthew Ossai, this year’s tournament, which will be flagged off in October, promises to be full of mouth-watering incentives, all geared towards empowering the
youth, discovering budding football talents and giving them a new sense of hope.
To forestall fire brigade approach which has undermined several sporting activities in the country, the organizers have swung into action and concluded arrangements to kick-start proceedings with a screening exercise scheduled for September.
This, Ossai emphasized, is necessary to check-mate teams who have the intention of parading over age players.
Considering the massive publicity, large turnout of players, and enthusiasm that greeted the 2010 edition, more than 15,000 footballers from the 25 local government areas that make up Delta State are expected to file out for the screening exercise.
