ABUJA – For his bravery, ability to lead officers and soldiers through risky landscape of aggression against the nation and come out victorious, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Oyeabor Azubuike Ihejirika, has conferred the highest military award in the Nigerian Army on Major General, Sarki Yakin Bello, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu.
Also conferred with the COAS commendation awards are Major General Adamu Buba Marwa, the Commander, Armoured Corps, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Funsho Owonibi, Brigadier General Obi Abel Umanna, Colonel Simeon Ekanem and Lt. Colonel Oyinlola.
General Sarki Bello was presented with the award by Vice President Namadi Sambo, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan, at the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2011, which held in Uyo, weekend.
Described as a no-nonsense officer by the COAS, the GOC 82 Division of the Army, is credited with the feat of rescuing the 15 Tender school children abducted by kidnappers for days in the eastern forests that attracted local and international condemnations.
