President of Nigeria Olympians Association (NOA), Prince Henry Amike has given a  pat on the back to the Director General of National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr. Patrick Ekeji for putting in place solid structures that will enhance the
nation’s sports development.

Amike, a former 400m runner noted that the NSC director General,  unknown to many people, has been putting in place structures that would re  position sports in the country in the years ahead.

In Amike’s words:“One thing going for us right now is that we have in Chief  Ekeji a man who has vision. He means well for our sports and what he is doing  right now will begin to rob off positively for our sports in the very near
future.

Ekeji is a man who believes in putting solid structures in place. I have seen the blue print he has drawn up for our sports and that is why I am  doffing my hat for him.
I am not a new comer to the business of sports and I  know what I am talking about. As an ex-international, I should know a good  program when I see one.”

Amike stressed that the only reason why some people appear not to be comfortable  with the NSC DG is the fact that he has chosen to concentrate on planning,  welfare of athletes rather than the intrigues associated  with Nigerian sports.

“Ekeji has been concentrating on the real business of how to take our sports to  the next level and that to me is the hallmark of a good administrator. The truth  is that some people are not too comfortable with his style for selfish reasons.
As an ex-international, he knows where the shoe pinches ,especially in the area of welfare of athletes and I think he has done well in that direction.”

Amike who equally spoke on plans being put together by NOA to ensure that Nigerian athletes don’t end up as paupers said a lot is being done to turn things around.

“The NOA is working hard to change a few things, especially as it affects the standard of living of athletes who have won Nigeria’s green –white- green  jersey. It takes a lot to represent ones country and such athletes equally
deserve a lot,” he said.
