Airtel Nigeria has unveiled a soccer talent programme that will focus on identifying and nurturing budding soccer talents in a programme tagged Airtel Rising Stars.
Airtel Rising Stars is an Africa programme that will provide a platform for upcoming soccer talents under the age of seventeen to showcase their skills to scouts, coaches and as well have an opportunity to improve their football skills. The initiative targets boys and girls across the country.
The programme will be organised in the format of regional and national tournaments culminating in an exclusive football camp in South Africa. The Football camp will be run under the aegis of the Sport Science Institute of South Africa.
Speaking, Mr. Deepak Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, Airtel Nigeria, at the launch of the programme, said,“the Airtel rising stars programme is designed to provide a structured platform for scouts, coaches, football authorities and other partners to tap into a vast pool of upcoming talent, courtesy of the programme and build strong soccer talent feeder systems for our league and national teams.”
Srivastava added that Airtel will work very closely with all the relevant bodies overseeing the sports in Nigeria and the Nigerian Football Federation to integrate the programme with local under-17 plans for both girls and boys.
