BAUCHI-A 30-year-old man, Muhammuda Babaji and a teenager, Yahuza Baraya, were drowned, yesterday, in a stagnant earth dam at Gumau village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

It was gathered that Babaji got drowned while taking his bath in preparation for Friday’s Juma’at prayers, while Yashuza was said to have drowned when he jumped into the dam  to save Babaji.

Efforts by the men of the Fire Service to save the victims proved abortive as they had died before they arrived the scene.

The  incident  came five days after a 13-year-old JSS 1 student of Excellence Model Academy, who went to swim in a pond in Lurshi, Yelwa, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis got drowned.

The earth dam was newly- constructed near Gumau village by the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority for cattle breeders.

A kingmaker, Sarkin Yakin Bauchi, Malam Muhammadu Mai Dawa,who described the incident as pathetic, warned people to be cautious when bathing at the dam.
