Camping for one of the favourites to win the Garden City 2011 National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt, Team Edo, will commence this Thursday, June 16 in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
Also, the Torch of Unity is expected to arrive the Edo state capital the following day on its final lap ahead of the festival commencement on July 2.
State Sports Commissioner, Iziegbe Anita Evbuonwan, said Team Edo will be camped for 10 days and all necessary logistics have been put in place to ensure that the camping is hitch-free and resourceful to the team’s target of emerging tops at the end of the Garden City Games. She thanked Governor Adams Oshiomhole, for making adequate provisions for the camping.
“Allowances will be paid as and when due, our hope is that the athletes and officials will reciprocate by ensuring an improvement in our past record, because we’ve always been known to be on top in the festival.
When the Games torch arrives Benin City, it would be received by Comrade Governor, Adams Oshiomhole at 5 Junctions, it will then be taken to Wire Road, then Obakhavbaye through the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Plymouth and Oba Akenzua roads.
The Commissioner urged Sports loving Edo indegenes to accord the Torch its deserved support during the tour.
