BENIN – THE Edo State Security Service, SSS, and the State Police Command, Tuesday, paraded 48 suspected armed robbers and kidnappers, recovering N7.7million and cache of ammunitions with them.
Among the suspected kidnappers paraded were persons alleged to be involved in the abduction of the father- in-law to the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Felix Okungbowa. Also, some of the arrested armed robbers included the gang that carted away N7.7million after they attacked a warehouse at Ugbogui, Ovia South West Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, some of them cultists, were arrested with different dangerous weapons, including about ten AK-47 rifles, live ammunition, seven cut to size single barrel local guns and several other weapons.
The Director of the SSS in Edo State, Mr Bello Bakori, paraded 20 of the suspected kidnappers at the SSS office in Benin City, while the Edo State Police Command, Mr David Omojola paraded 28 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultist at the state Police Command.
Mr Omojola disclosed that some of the suspected kidnappers, were arrested in Uromi after an exchange of gun fire with his men.
On how they busted the robbery suspects, who attacked a popular cocoa warehouse at Ugbogui, Omojola explained that the police through covert intelligence, apprehended one of them, Umukoro Ejime, who confessed to the crime and named other members of his gang.
