Police arrest 2 suspected robbers

BY CHIDI NKWOPARA,

OWERRI-Two ex-students of Ahiara Technical College, Chimezie Ugwumba and Sunny Anokwu, have been arrested by the police for their alleged involvement in armed robbery.

Vanguard investigations revealed that the two suspected robbers were caught in the act while trying to rob a filling station located at Orie Uvuru market.

It was further gathered that when the news filtered into Aboh Mbaise Divisional Police Headquarters, a crack anti-robbery team was quickly put together and they went after the robbers.

An impeccable police source told Vanguard that “at the end of the quick intervention operation, the two rampaging robbers were apprehended and on interrogation, Chimezie Ugwumba from Ife Owutu, Ezinihitte and Sunny Anokwu, gave their ages as 23 and 18 respectively”.

They also revealed that they learnt how to mould pistols in school, adding that so many other students in and out of the school had been making this brand of firearm and selling to people.

When Vanguard called the mobile line of the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Linus Nwaiwu, a deputy superintendent of police, DSP, for comment, his orderly said he was “at a meeting and could not immediately speak on the issue.”
