Oyo inaugurates panel on NURTW crises

*As NANS asks IG to sanction Oyo CP

IBADAN—TO find lasting solution to the incessant violent clashes between factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Oyo State, Governor Abiola Ajimobi,  has set up a five-man panel to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the clashes among others.

This came as the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS asked the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, to sanctions the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Baba Adisa Bolanta, for allegedly contributing to the NURTW crisis and mayhem.

The students’ body who spoke through Mr. Jude Imagwe, one of its leaders, argued that the CP was over due for redeployment to the Force Headquarters for perceived poor performance.

The panel is to among others, identify individuals or groups that precipitated and participated in the crises, either directly or indirectly, and recommend appropriate sanctions to be imposed on the identified culprits.

It is also to ascertain the number of persons killed or that sustained injuries during the crisis, identify the spread and extent of loss and damage to means of livelihood and assess the cost of damage to personal or public properties during the crisis.
The panel which has eight weeks to submit its report,  is headed by  retired Justice Olagoke Ige.
