Olympic team lose 1-0

Nigeria’s Under-23 team were yesterday beaten 1-0 by Tanzania in their 2012 Olympic Games first leg second round qualifying match decided at the Dares-Salaam National stadium.

Despite some resolute defending by the Coach Austin Eguavoen-tutored Nigerian side, the home team got the decisive goal in the 82nd minute, when a defensive mix-up by the Nigerians allowed Juan  Omar to  weigh in a perfect cross that was nodded in by Ulimwengu Emmanuel/

The goal was well celebrated by the home fans, who had piled much pressure on the Nigerians, who also mounted some attacking play at intervals.

Both teams would square off in two weeks time to determine the eventual winner of the two-legged fixture.
In his post-match reaction, Coach Eguavoen said that his team would exact their pound of flesh on the Tanzanians.

“Because it’s a two legged game that give us the opportunity to get it right in the return leg. We lost a lot of scoring chances, if we had converted them it would have been a different story all together, we will eliminate them. The Victory is no doubt a good one for Tanzania, but they have no chance against us in the return leg at home”, said Eguavoen.
