OWERRI – Chief Ikedi Ohakim’s running mate in the last gubernatorial election in Imo State, Professor Viola Onwuliri, has turned down her nomination as a commissioner by Governor Rochas Okorocha.
Although Vanguard could not reach the don for her comments on the issue at press time, the report of the five-man ad-hoc committee set up by the state House of Assembly to screen nominees revealed her position.
According to the committee’s report, “Professor (Mrs.) Viola Onwuliri was absent and, therefore, did not present herself for screening.”
Those who presented themselves for screening and were approved by the committee included Chief Soronnadi Njoku, Dr. Obi Njoku, Mrs. Veronica Adaora Ijezie, Mrs. Ann Dozie, Chief Uche Ejike, Lady Chioma Ogoke and Comrade Kenneth Emelu.
Others are Chief Gerald Okoli, Nze Ogueri, Mr. Nelson Ezerioha, Alex Azunna Ogwazuo, Chief John Okafor and Mr. Steve Ugo Ahaneku.
The ad-hoc committee, thereafter, recommended and requested their colleagues to “confirm the appointments of the nominees as commissioners in the state, except Professor (Mrs.) Viola Onwuliri, who did not appear for screening.”
Meanwhile, barring any unforeseen circumstance, all the nominees screened and approved for appointment by the lawmakers would be sworn-in today by Governor Okorocha at the Multi Purpose Hall, Government House, Owerri.
