NIPR to brainstorm on way forward

The Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) said its PR week coming up in October will be a forum for participants to contribute to the development of the PR profession.

Mr. Jide Ologun, Chairman of the institute who stated this at the pre-AGM media briefing and unveiling of 22nd AGM logo in Lagos recently noted that the PR week is a prime forum for all practitioners of public relations in Lagos state and beyond to mix, share ideas, tune up their professionalism and in the process contribute to the development of the profession.

Ologun also stated that the PR week now provides a platform for the works of professionals to be rated, celebrating deserving professionals in an organized forum, on the platform of the NIPR Golden Eagles Award for Excellence.

Some objectives of the forum, according to the Chairman includes providing a platform for discussing and drawing insight on vital issues, and proffering solutions on national issues; creating a bonding and networking environment for marketing communication experts and PR professionals; bridging the communication gap between corporate organizations, PR practitioners and the larger society thereby creating an environment that helps all parties to thrive, and in the process create a synergy that powers mutual understanding and development.

While noting that the theme for the 2011 forum is ‘towards a greater Nigeria: public relations as a viable tool for national and mass orientation,’ Ologun disclosed that the 22nd Annual General Meeting of the NIPR Lagos Chapter explores how public relations can be best used to galvanize the Nigerian public towards achievement of national targets or objectives.

In his words “At the end of the conference, it is believed that we would arrive at a working document to be presented to the government and other stakeholders on how to use public relations for the enhancement of humanity and society.”

He noted that the proposed keynote speaker is the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola while the proposed guest speakers are Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu; Dr. Christopher Kolade; Mr. John Momoh, MD/ CEO Channels Television; and Mr. Toyin Zubair, MD/CEO HITV, stating “We will also witness the 2nd Edition of the PR Golden eagle awards with enhanced glamour. When we came up with this idea in 2010, we were very aware of the fact that such had never happened in the chequered history of PR practice in Nigeria.”
