In an apparent move to confront all forms of security threats in the nations’ economy, Lagos based IT training institute, New Horizons in collaboration with a United States based EC-Council are working in concert to host a one-day Information Technology (IT) security and electronic commerce seminar in Nigeria.
The event is programmed to review the newest threats to IT security, and the latest security tools available to corporate bodies and individuals to counter such attacks in their respective domain.
According to the spokesperson of New Horizon, The public relations executive, Mr. Akinyemi Sokoya, arrangement had been concluded to draft the President, EC-Council, USA, Mr. Sanjay Bavisi, to speak at the event scheduled to hold next tomorrow, at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to him, Mr. Bavisi will at the occasion address individuals and corporate organizations invited to the gathering on theme: Cashless Economy; Current ICT Security Threats and Mitigations in line with the overall objective of the event, which will be a review on the newest threats to IT security, and the latest security tools available to corporate bodies and individuals to counter such attacks.
“The session will also be unveiling the “EBSM” known as “Equipment-Based Security Mentality” in the corporate world, which most often falls short of preventing hackers from infiltrating those so-called secure infrastructure systems,” he added.
With the discovery that hackers now often prey on the mistakes made by users of a network and feed on them to break into a “defenceless defence, he said further discovery has shown that once a simple breach occurs through the action of hackers, further breaches would be cascaded through the network.
Sokoya however stated further that the seminar would also focus on the best practices in achieving optimal security in organizations, and how to eliminate EBSM.
“It would also highlight how some of the most common defensive tactics deployed by many organizations, often deemed as adequate, can be easily breached,” he noted, adding that the session is fashioned to draw attention to the high-level of ignorance and incompetence of many organizations. when it comes to information security.
