Still basking in the euphoria of the success that trailed Wednesday’s high-profile international friendly match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the La Albiceleste of Argentina , Guinness Nigeria Plc, has said that plans are afoot to bring Spain to play the Eagles in another friendly match.
Speaking moments after the Eagles coasted to a 4-1 win over Argentina at the Abuja National Stadium, Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria PLC, Devlin Hainsworth, said that the brewery giant was proud of its sole sponsorship of the match.
“We at Guinness are very happy with our investment in the sponsorship of the match between two of the best teams in the world. This is money well spent and the game is better for it. I was particularly thrilled with the turnout of fans to support the two teams and it was such a great match to watch”, said the Guinness boss, who also hailed the Coach Samson Siasia-led Super Eagles team for recording their first win over Argentina.
“They were simply superb. They played with their hearts and you could see that they gave the Argentinians a hiding. They deserved their victory but that is not taking anything away from the opposition, who also played well but were unfortunately a shade behind the hosts”, he said.
And in a bold move aimed at sustaining the gains of Wednesday’s match, Guinness has said that it would soon initiate moves to set up another iconic international friendly match for the Super Eagles, with the Spanish national team, who are the defending European and World Champions.
“We want only the best to play against Nigeria and in our determination to contribute to the development of Nigerian football, we want to sponsor another match that would see the Super Eagles playing against Spain”.
