ABUJA — Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appointed an Acting High Commissioner to Kenya following recall of the substantive High Commissioner, Dr Chijioke Wigwe, to the country.
This was stated by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Martin Umohoibhi, in response to reporters questions at a press briefing in Abuja, yesterday.
However, he explained that Wigwe remains the substantive High Commissioner for the East African country until the Ministry concludes its investigations into the circumstances surrounding the domestic scandal involving the Nigerian envoy and his wife.
He also confirmed that “the Ministry was looking into the case,” adding that the authorities would adhere to the law and international conventions and also ensure that the human rights of all the parties involved are respected.
It was gathered that already the Administration Department of the Ministry had launched a quiet enquiry into the incident to unravel the details of the scandal which was sensationally reported by the Kenyan press.
Dr Wigwe who was posted to Kenya in 2008 is also Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme, and was also accredited to the Republic of Seychelles, and Oversees Somalia.
