BABCOCK University, Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State, penultimate week turned out new graduates of about 1,022 representing various faculties of the institution at its 9th Convocation with excellence. A total of 149 Graduands were produced from the School of Education and Humanities; 159 in Law and Security Studies; 361 in Management and Social Sciences while 353 were from Science and Technology. Forty-seven Graduands scored First Class; 866 Second Class Upper and 109 Second Class Lower respectively.
On behalf of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, proprietor of Babcock University, Professor Kayode Makinde, the President/Vice Chancellor of the institution, reiterated how the school became a place where students find at every stop, mature faculty and staff genuinely dedicated to their success.
He noted that the heavenly source of all wisdom that inspires individual with ideas and energy to mobilize and
motivate faculty, staff and students was the root of success in the institution.
According to him, “It is from these roots we shall draw energy to engage in broader initiatives that span the academia.
“We have a comprehensive plan detailing the direction of excellence for the University in the next 10 years ending 2020.
“Our highest priority for the next 10 years is to grow in faith, enhance faculty, teaching, research excellence, by matching technological opportunities with strategic priorities with specific intent to enrich student and faculty experience, promote creativity, leadership in scholarship and research for local and global impact.
“To remain globally competitive and relevant, we are set to attain global leadership in scholarship and international engagement,” Prof. Makinde stated.
In the same vein, the Vice Chancellor, opined further on the limitless goodness God gave the institution among which are: “Collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), to create the five year integrated B.Sc/ACA programme module for the Nigerian university system.
Pioneering the MBBS/Ph.D medical programme to produce clinically qualified medical scientists trained to replenish the rapidly depleted pool and reverse the brain-drain effect in the West-Central Africa sub-region.
Some of the outstanding achievements recorded so far are:
•Babcock School of Postgraduates Studies with Masters and Ph.D programmes in most of its undergraduate disciplines.
•Ranks first on the list of private universities in Nigeria.
•Ranks third position overall, in Nigerian universities Research and Development.
•Ranks 2nd best in Nigerian Universities legal Clients’ Counseling competition.
•Three highly successful international conferences ogranised and hosted by Babcock University within the year and two more before the year runs out.
•Representing Nigeria at the grand finale of Legal Clients’ Counseling Competition in Netherlands’ School of Law and Security Studies,” Prof. Makinde enumerated among others.
