BENIN-THE National Chairman of the Accord Party, and the National Secretary of the party, were, yesterday, removed by chairmen of the party in the states over alleged breach of the party’s constitution.
The party leaders, in a communique by the chairmen of the party in Edo,Ondo, Ekiti,Lagos, Ogun States and the National Vice Chairman of the party (South West), Chief Kayode Ojo, in Benin City, said the secretary was removed because of the way he emerged, which according to the communique “did not follow provisions the constitution of the party.”
The communique alleged that the National Chairman and his Deputy, “purportedly compiled lists of political appointees made up of their family members and submitted same to the presidency. The statement of accounts showed the reckless manner money had been allotted.
“The national chairman and his deputy, contravened Article 18 of the party’s constitution, which was why the party lost in the North in the just concluded general elections.
“The duo could not deliver their polling units in their respective states, which raised serious question as to why they should continue to stay in their positions,” it said.
The communique noted that “based on the aforementioned, the national chairman is hereby removed in the interest of the party and Rev.Isaac Adeniyi is appointed as Caretaker chairman pending the next convention of the party.”
